Warren Steury (N. Warren Steury) is the founder and president of Meriwether Academy, Inc., a Nashville, Tennessee 501(c)(3) nonprofit devoted to the revitalization of the American man through classical education, wilderness adventure, virtue and brotherhood. Under his leadership, Meriwether hosts dinner lectures and symposia in Nashville, a weekly men’s book club reading Plutarch’s Lives in Nashville and Chattanooga, wilderness expeditions and father and son trips across Tennessee, and is laying the groundwork for a classical boys’ boarding school.
Formed in the wilderness
Steury grew up in North Carolina. At sixteen he spent three months living out of a backpack in the North Carolina mountains, then finished his schooling at a boys’ boarding school on a former Scout camp. That year in the woods, he has said, shaped his character more than any classroom, and it became the seed of Meriwether’s model: serious study of the great books joined to real challenge outdoors and the mentorship of good men. He started his first book club at eighteen as a college student at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, and has hosted reading groups and dinners for friends ever since.
Writer and host
Steury writes on Nashville history and culture for The Pamphleteer, hosts the Meriwether Academy Podcast, and is the author of two books of reflections, Reflections on Morals and Ideals and Proclamations on a Good Life. In the fall of 2026 Meriwether Academy helped bring Peter Thiel’s four-part Nashville lecture series to the city, presented by The Pamphleteer in collaboration with Meriwether Academy. His work and the Academy have been covered by TheBlaze, The Pamphleteer, The Tennessean and others; see our press page.
